September 2023

The Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry is open: Mondays 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Fridays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Food is distributed, and donations are gratefully accepted during business hours. We also have collection boxes in the vestibule at Fareway, Nosh, and at Inspire Continuing Care for donations. The Clothing room is open to all residents of Geneseo and Atkinson on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Because of the community’s generous support, the Food Pantry provided food and emergency assistance to 166 households in July.  Combined food distributions in July were equivalent to 5,089 meals. Thanks to the many donors who make all this possible!

Thank you to all who contributed school supplies or monetary donations for school supplies, and thanks to local businesses and churches that collected school supplies! Together we helped 109 students receive what they need for school without putting a strain on their families’ already stretched budgets. We continue to accept school supplies donations throughout the year. Many thanks to Inspire Continuing Care, who raised funds with their Rock Snake project, and purchased the remaining school supplies needed for area students! Thank you to all who contributed to the Rock Snake fundraiser.

Thank you to Grace United Methodist Church and First Lutheran Church, who have held special collection weekends for Food Pantry donations! The donations of personal care items and cleaning supplies helped many families and individuals receive items they need that they often cannot afford.

Do you want to donate but don’t have time to drop off donations at the Food Pantry? We accept monetary donations at P.O. Box 324, Geneseo, IL, or you can donate with a credit card by clicking the “donate” button at geneseofoodpantry.org. The Food Pantry often buys food such as meat, cheese, butter, frozen fruits, and vegetables, with monetary donations received. Another way to donate is to purchase items from the Amazon wish list and have them shipped to the Food Pantry. Scan this code to find the list here:

Volunteer of the Month Aaron Minnaert

Aaron Minnaert, the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry Volunteer of the Month, works in the food room stocking shelves, checking in donations, and helping families and individuals who come to receive food. Aaron said the best thing about volunteering at the Food Pantry is learning about how generous our community is and the wonderful people that live in our community. Thank you for all your time, hard work and commitment, Aaron!
