September 2020 Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry Newsletter

Thank you to all who have donated food, clothing, household items, and money to the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry during this difficult time!  We are accepting donations on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (except on holidays such as Labor Day).  Please place items in the carts outside the front or back doors, and volunteers or staff will bring them inside.

We are still able to purchase food through River Bend Food Bank. You may donate by mailing a check to Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry, PO Box 324, Geneseo, IL 61254.  If you choose to donate through PayPal or credit card, visit http://www.geneseofoodpantry.org and click on “Donate”.  We are extremely grateful for the continued support of our community when so many are struggling.

The Food Pantry will remain open on Tuesday mornings from 9-11:30 a.m. for food pick-up (for residents living in 61254 or 61235 zip code area). If you or anyone you know needs assistance feel free to leave a message at 944-3165 or email geneseopantry@gmail.com.  The clothing room is available on Mondays from 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00 to only two shoppers at a time.  Masks are required in the building, and we request that shoppers call ahead.

School has begun and our clients’ children were provided with brand new school supplies, backpacks, socks, underwear, and shoes, thanks to the caring donations from our community!  Your thoughtfulness makes a big difference in the lives of the families we serve.

As the weather starts to cool off, light jackets, long-sleeved shirts, and jeans will be needed. Baby and toddler sized clothing is especially needed now. Many clients get clothing at the Food Pantry to reduce their spending on clothing for their families.

Our volunteer of the month, Sandy Hannah, has been volunteering at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry for 6½ years.  She sorts clothing, linen, and houseware donations.  Sandy enjoys reading and spending time with family.  She said the best thing about volunteering at the Food Pantry is working with the other ladies.  “We laugh and have a good time together and get to know the clients.”  Sandy loves how generous the community is to donate supplies needed all year long.

The Food Pantry will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

The Food Pantry is in need of: Mayonnaise, brown sugar, pizza crust mix, pizza sauce, and popcorn.

Non-food needs include: Freezer bags, pain relievers, all-purpose cleaner, bleach, and kleenex.
