October 2025

The Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry is open: Mondays 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Fridays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Food is distributed, and donations are gratefully accepted during business hours. We also have collection boxes in the vestibule at Fareway, NOSH and at Inspire Continuing Care for donations.

Because of the community’s generous support, the Food Pantry provided food and emergency assistance to 409 households in August. Thanks to the many donors who make all this possible!

The Food Pantry partners with Wright Foot Left and Sole Relief to provide two Foot Care Clinics each month. Nurses soak feet, trim and file toenails, help with ingrown toenails, and give a light foot massage with lotion. Please call 309-944-3165 or email geneseopantry1@gmail.com to make an appointment. Cost is $37.  Food Pantry Guests are provided with a voucher.

The Food Pantry is collecting food for Thanksgiving food baskets, which may be dropped off during business hours, and non-perishable donations may be placed in donation bins at Fareway, NOSH, or Inspire Continuing Care.  The following items are needed: Turkey or ham, stuffing, mashed potato mix or bag of potatoes, gravy mix or gravy, green beans, cream of mushroom soup, French fried onions, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes or yams, creamed corn, corn, corn muffin mix, pumpkin, evaporated milk, pie filling, pie crust mix, juice or sparkling juice. Thank you for your help providing our guests with what they need for their Thanksgiving dinner!

A Hammond-Henry dietitian will present a class about healthy cooking and eating on October 14 at 1:00 at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry. Learn how to prepare healthy dishes, try new foods, and receive recipes to take home! This class is free and open to the public.

Our Volunteer of the Month, Danny Powell, has been volunteering at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry for almost one year. He sorts and displays clothing and household item donations, and helps carry items for people. Danny has been married to Charlotte for 44 years. They have three married children and four grandchildren, as well as a spoiled boxer mix dog. Danny enjoys fishing, hunting, and bird watching. He is a Cubs and Bulls fan. Danny said the best thing about volunteering at the Food Pantry is that it is one way to serve God and help others. He said he tends to be shy and this helps him meet and work with people. Danny likes working with his new friends who also work in the clothing room. He said they help him feel less embarrassed when he is sorting ladies undergarments or other clothing such as a sari and he’s not sure what they are. It always brings a good laugh! Thank you for all your help, Danny!
