Happy Thanksgiving from the staff and volunteers at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry!
Providing a family with the ingredients for a complete Thanksgiving dinner can bless those who find it challenging to add the cost of a Thanksgiving meal to their already stretched budgets. Another opportunity to help during the holidays is by “adopting” a family or individual for Christmas. Those willing to donate gifts are matched up with families or individuals in need. If you adopt a family you will be given a list of the family’s needs and sizes. If you, your family, or organization would like to provide a Thanksgiving box for a family or individual, or want to adopt a family for Christmas, please call us at 944-3165 or email Jolynn at email@example.com.
The Farm Bureau Young Leaders is conducting a “Fill-a-Ford” Food Drive on Saturday, November 14, 9am-2pm, at Fareway in Geneseo. A list of the Food Pantry needs will be available to customers that day. Thank you for your support!
Project Now is currently helping clients apply for energy assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP provides federally funded assistance in managing costs associated with: Home energy bills, energy crises, weatherization and energy-related minor home repairs.
Many Geneseo and Atkinson residents receive clothing and household items from the Food Pantry to help them stay within their budget. The Food Pantry is currently most in need of winter coats of all sizes and girls clothing.
Our volunteer of the month, Nicole Cherry, has been volunteering at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry for four years. She helps sort clothing and household items, and has been helping with curbside food distribution during the pandemic. Nicole said the best thing about volunteering is giving back to the community and helping those in need. She is thankful that we have been able to continue to support clients during the pandemic. Nicole loves interacting with all those who support the Food Pantry, such as local farmers who donate produce and eggs, companies that provide ongoing support, and individuals who give so much to help our clients. The holiday season is fun and hectic, but always rewarding.
Food needs for November are: Chicken broth, baked beans, pie crust mix, ramen noodles, and gravy mix.
Non-food needs include: Kleenex, antibacterial wipes, lotion, liquid hand soap, and mouthwash.
