Did you know the Food Pantry provides emergency rent assistance? If you are interested in helping someone pay rent, please write, “For rent assistance” in the memo of your check.
With spring right around the corner we will be accepting donations of lighter coats and jackets. We are especially in need of men’s clothing.
Our clients are grateful for the farm fresh eggs some local farmers donate throughout the year. Donations of fresh and frozen meats also help our clients stretch their food budget.
Are you starting to plan your garden? Please consider planting an extra row for those who cannot always afford to purchase fresh produce. Our clients truly appreciate the fresh fruits and vegetables donated from gardens in our community.
The “Scouting for Food” Cub Scout and Boy Scout food drive will take place Saturday, April 4. The Scouts will distribute flyers prior to the pickup date. If you set out food and it is not picked up, please bring it to the Food Pantry at 620 W. Main St. Our hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. Food drives like this and continued donations from the community help us feed our clients well into the summer months. If your group or organization is interested in having a food drive for the Food Pantry, please contact us at 944-3165.
Our volunteer of the month, Colleen Dodd, has been volunteering at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry for several years. She sorts donations, hangs up clothing, and greets visitors. Colleen has a husband, four adult children, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She enjoys reading, baking, flowers, sending cards and letters, and spending time with friends. Colleen said the best things about volunteering at the Food Pantry are being with people, helping them find what they need, and seeing how generous the community is. She said she admires the director of the Food Pantry, Jolynn, who can handle everything with such kindness. Thank you for your service, Colleen!
Food needs for this month are: Syrup, mayonnaise, flour, sugar, and salsa.
Non-food needs are Laundry soap, bleach, mouthwash, garbage bags, and feminine hygiene products.
