On May 25, there was sewage coming up through almost every drain at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry. The city pumped the sewers and fixed the problem, but the flooring was contaminated in most of the building. Werner Restoration is removing the contaminated flooring and parts of walls. A lot of food and all the clothing had to be moved to the part of the building that wasn’t affected. Therefore, our clothing room is closed until further notice and we are unable to accept any food or clothing donations at this time. Curbside food distribution will continue on Tuesday mornings from 9:00-11:30 a.m. and anyone who needs other assistance should call the Food Pantry at 944-3165. Any changes and updates will be provided on the website, geneseofoodpantry.org and the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry Facebook page. We apologize for the inconvenience and we’ll do the best we can to continue serving those in need.
If you are watching your garden grow, please remember that the Food Pantry appreciates donations of fresh produce. It enables us to provide clients with healthier food choices, and it provides them with options to try foods they may not have otherwise considered. Please consider donating a new or used fan to the Food Pantry. Many of our clients do not have air conditioning and they appreciate receiving fans to keep them cool. We are also accepting donations of summer clothing and household items, and we’re especially in need of sheets and towels.
Our Volunteer of the Month, Doreen Derew, has been volunteering at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry for about five years. She sorts clothing and household items. Doreen said the best thing about volunteering at the Food Pantry is that it makes her heart feel good. Doreen’s most memorable experience at the Food Pantry was when a camper caught fire on the street. The volunteers gave the family the things they needed to replace. She said the gratitude of the family was priceless. Thank you for your service, Doreen!
The Geneseo Food Pantry will be closed July 5 in observance of Independence Day.
