February 2024

The Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry is open: Mondays 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Fridays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The clothing room is closed on Fridays. Food is distributed, and donations are gratefully accepted during business hours. We also have collection boxes in the vestibule at Fareway, NOSH, and at Inspire Continuing Care for donations. The Food Pantry will be closed on Good Friday, March 29. If the Geneseo Schools are closed due to weather, the Food Pantry is also closed.

Because of the community’s generous support, the Food Pantry provided food and emergency assistance to 213 households in December. In addition to our regular food distribution, we provided 150 families with Christmas baskets.  Combined food distributions in December were equivalent to 9,412 meals. Thanks to the many donors who make all this possible!

We are a full choice food pantry, which means guests choose the food they take home. Households that meet requirements may receive food once per month. The Food Pantry uses the Supporting Wellness at Pantries system to help guests make healthy choices. Food on our shelves is labeled red, yellow, or green to indicate levels of saturated fat, sodium, and sugar so guests can find healthier food more easily.

The Food Pantry partners with two nurses to provide two Foot Care Clinics to the public each month. Nurses soak feet, trim, and file toenails, help with ingrown toenails, and give a light foot massage with lotion. Please call 309-944-3165 or email geneseopantry1@gmail.com to make an appointment. Cost is $37 but Food Pantry guests are given a voucher.

On January 11, Dietitians from Hammond-Henry Hospital taught a free healthy cooking class in the Matthew 25 Center at the Food Pantry.  The Dietitians will be back to teach another free cooking class on February 8 at 1:00 at the Food Pantry, and the public is invited.

Our Volunteer of the Month, Jill Gephart, has been volunteering at the Food Pantry for three years. Jill sorts clothing and household item donations, helps guests in the food room, and sorts toys for the Christmas toy room. She has a husband, Jarred, and three sons: Liam, Devin, and Drake. Jill loves organizing and baking, and she owns a bakery, North Street Treats. She said the best thing about volunteering is paying it forward. Jill loves helping in any way she can and she especially loves sorting toys at Christmas. Thank you for sharing your time, Jill!
