August 2022 Newsletter

 The Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry is open: Mondays 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Fridays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Food is distributed, and donations are gratefully accepted during business hours. We also have collection boxes in the vestibule at Fareway and at Inspire Continuing Care for donations. The Clothing room is open to all residents of Geneseo and Atkinson on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Because of the community’s amazing support, the Food Pantry provided food and emergency assistance to 103 households in June. Food distributions in June were equivalent to 3,181 meals. Many thanks to our donors!

The Food Pantry will distribute free school supplies to students in the Geneseo School District on August 11 and 12.  Anyone needing school supplies should call 944-3165 or email geneseopantry1@gmail.com to sign up.

The Food Pantry is in need of the following school supplies: #2 yellow pencils, book covers (Jumbo), Crayola Broad Line markers (10-count), Broad Line Crayola Classic colors markers (8-count), divider tabs with pockets, dry erase markers (Wide), loose leaf paper (wide ruled), baby wipes (80 count), scientific calculator, composition books, wide-tipped dry erase markers, Clorox or Lysol wipes, ear buds and headphones with straight plug, Elmer’s purple glue sticks, Elmer’s Extreme glue stick, package graph paper, plastic pocket folder with 3-holes, plastic pocket folder with prongs, paper plates (light duty 100 count), plastic supply box (8″ x 5″), Post It Notes (2×2″), Post It notes (4″x4″), spiral notebooks (wide ruled, 100 pages), wide ruled spiral notebooks (70 page, 2 subject, and 3 subject), scissors (student size), Twistable Colored pencils (12-count), Kleenex, Ziploc bags (gallon, quart, and sandwich size).

Monetary donations are gratefully accepted as well!

The Food Pantry is hosting a Foot Care Clinic each month. The next Foot Care Clinics will be held August 28 and September 22. Please call 944-3165 to make an appointment.

On June 21st, OSF King Care-A-Van, a mobile health unit, provided a walk-in clinic with a nurse practitioner offering wellness checks, medical advice, referrals, COVID-19 testing (rapid only), and free screenings for blood pressure. The Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry will continue look for ways to provide services to families and individuals enabling them to be more fully functional, effective, and healthy.

A SNAP outreach coordinator came to the Food Pantry on July 5 to answer questions about SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and help guests sign up for SNAP.

River Bend Food Bank will be featuring a drive-thru only, Mobile Box Food Pantry on Saturday, August 27th, at the Esperanza Center, 335 5th Avenue, Moline, Illinois.  Distribution will begin at 11am.  Participants are asked to please not arrive early to avoid traffic congestion and to be respectful of the people living in the neighborhood.  This event is open to anyone in need of food and is not based on residency.

Food needs: Mayonnaise, taco shells, cooking spray, cereal, and pasta.

Non-food needs: Size 4, 5, and 6 diapers, paper plates, conditioner, shampoo, and laundry soap.
