August 2025

The Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry is open: Mondays 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Fridays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Food is distributed, and donations are gratefully accepted during business hours. We also have collection boxes in the vestibule at Fareway, NOSH and at Inspire Continuing Care for donations. The Food Pantry will be closed on September 1 in observance of Labor Day.

Because of the community’s generous support, the Food Pantry provided food and emergency assistance to 385 households in June.  Thanks to the many donors who make all this possible!

The Food Pantry partners with Wright Foot Left and Sole Relief to provide two Foot Care Clinics to the public each month. Nurses soak feet, trim and file toenails, help with ingrown toenails, and give a light foot massage with lotion. Please call 309-944-3165 or email geneseopantry1@gmail.com to make an appointment. The cost is $37 but Food Pantry guests are given a voucher.

Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies for Geneseo Schools students in need! Some Vacation Bible School groups collected supplies as a service project, which made a big impact! Your donations will help ease the financial burden for families and the students will start the school year with what they need. School supplies will be distributed August 4 and 5, and those in need of school supplies should contact the food pantry.

The blood drive held June 13 was a success! We look forward to hosting another blood drive in February.

The next dietitian class will be Tuesday, August 12 and Tuesday, September 9 at 1:00. Try new dishes, learn how to prepare them, and take home recipes! Everyone is welcome.

Anyone whose children receive Backpack Blessings in the Geneseo School District may pick up their Backpack Blessings at the Food Pantry while school is out for summer.

We could use some help moving heavy boxes from pallets to a cart. Volunteers for this must be able to lift 50 pounds. These are the dates and times we need help: Monday, August 11, 8:00-9:00 a.m. and Monday, September 15, 8:00-9:00 a.m. Thank you!

The Food Pantry accepts any size clothing, accessories, kitchenware, decorations, books, games, toys, movies, and other household items. If donors have large items they want to donate, we post the name of the item on the white board, and if someone is interested in the item, we give them the phone number of the donor to arrange pickup.

Do you want to achieve significant life changes and receive help and support setting and reaching your goals? Then the Five Loaves program at Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry is for you! Call 309-944-3165 visit geneseofoodpantry.org for more information.

Bee Scheider has built and planted a raised garden on the west end of our building! Bee will earn a Gold Award, which is the highest and most prestigious award in Girl Scouts, earned by Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts in grades 9-12. It recognizes girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable, impactful projects that address community or global issues.

The garden contains a large variety of vegetables, herbs, and some flowers that repel pests. We have already been harvesting vegetables to give to our guests!

Thank you, Bee, for all the planning, organizing, time, and hard work you put into this project! It is thoughtful of you to put all this effort into creating an inexpensive and sustainable method of feeding the hungry!
