September 2021

The Food Pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00, and Friday 9:00-12:00. We are gratefully accepting donations of food, clothing, and household items during business hours. Food distribution is Tuesday 9:00-11:30. The clothing room is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

We welcome Mike Sigwalt as the new Director of the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry.  Prior to working at the Food Pantry Michael had been the Fiscal Manager for another Illinois nonprofit agency and he had also volunteered at the River Bend Food Bank for many years.  He and his wife, Barbara, are Geneseo residents. In his spare time Michael likes to read, run, and bake bread. He is also a Deacon at St Malachy’s Catholic Church in Geneseo.

Nicole Freadhoff is the new Assistant Director of the Food Pantry. She has been employed at the Food Pantry since 2015. Nicole, her husband Greg, and two children live in Geneseo. In her spare time Nicole likes to run, read, and golf. She also volunteers for Scouts and her church.

School has begun and 32 students in the Geneseo School District were provided with brand new school supplies, backpacks, socks, underwear, and shoes, thanks to caring donations from our community!  Your thoughtfulness makes a big difference in the lives of the families we serve.

Geneseo Quik Lube will donate $1 to the Food Pantry for every oil change, September 1-30. Geneseo Superwash will donate $2 to the Food Pantry for every set of tokens purchased. They will donate $1 for every fully paid auto wash and 50 cents for every self serve wash during the month of September. Thank you, Geneseo Quik Lube and Superwash!

As the weather starts to cool off, light jackets, long-sleeved shirts, and jeans are needed. The Food Pantry is most in need of sheet sets, underwear and socks. Many clients get clothing at the Food Pantry to reduce their spending on clothing for their families.

Our Volunteer of the Month, Linda Henry, has been volunteering at the Food Pantry for about 8 years. She sorts and displays household items and clothing donations. Linda’s hobbies are reading, sewing, gardening and baking. She said the best thing about volunteering at the Food Pantry is helping people who are in need and seeing how grateful they are. Thank you for volunteering, Linda!

The Food Pantry will be closed on Monday, September 6, in observance of Labor Day.

The Food Pantry is in need of: Ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, juice, beef broth, and chili beans.

Non-food needs include:  Dryer sheets, sandwich bags, freezer bags, plastic utensils, and aluminum foil.
